Product Hunt Launch Video Checklist for Makers

Prepare a concise product video, gallery assets, and an inspectable share link before launch day.

A Product Hunt video should make the product understandable without requiring sound, a login, or a long explanation. Prepare it as part of the launch package rather than treating it as a last-minute export.

Story checklist

  • The first scene states a concrete user outcome.
  • The middle shows one real product workflow.
  • The result screen is visible long enough to understand.
  • Captions carry the story when audio is muted.
  • The closing frame contains one next step.

Evidence checklist

Record from a public, stable product path. Keep each scene linked to its source URL and action. Remove claims that are not supported by the page or the recorded result. If a launch feature is not live, do not simulate it in the interface.

Format checklist

Create a horizontal master for the product page, then inspect any square or vertical crops independently. Do not assume a centered crop will preserve a sidebar, result panel, or important label. Check caption size on a phone, not only on a desktop editor.

Sharing checklist

Use an unlisted link while the video is under review. The share page should identify the source product, show the approved storyboard, and avoid search indexing until the maker chooses to publish it. A unique claim link may transfer a prepared project, but it does not authorize public comments or outreach on the maker’s behalf.

Launch-day checklist

Open the final link in a signed-out browser, play the whole video, test the CTA, and confirm that the intended version is public. Keep the previous render available in case the new product build changes unexpectedly.
